Here’s a compilation of how I approach my coloring style. Going in either watercolor, the goal is to add more dimension and the idea of thickness to the forms I am sculpting on the page while maintaining the illusion of light hitting objects, such as the car, facial forms, figures, bike, etc. With mixed media, I am trying to create a stark aesthetic using ink, watercolor, colored pencils, etc. wherein forms are striking in appearance but obvious where boundaries are/ what is what in the piece, which is difficult to achieve. Watercolor is difficult especially to emphasize color through darker tones because of its light nature, often having to bunch up the substance in a pool of water whereas mediums like acrylic are easier to accomplish darker values with.
