Paying attention to how you go about the art-making process allows you to make more efficient changes. For example, overtime I learned to stray away from sketch lines and to rather be precise with pen movement. This takes confidence which pen handling which can be built with practice. Another good practice I gleaned from years of drawing is using the eraser as little as possible. What this does is it forces you to work with what you’re given, and rather than solely striving for whatever particular composition you have in your head, you can train yourself to see other possibilities/ go out of your comfort zone. Mainly, I find anywhere in drawing/art making where you can leave your comfort zone (as a beginner) is an efficient way of building skill. Once you don’t hesitate to do things in art which were once considered “outside of your comfort zone” you will know that the growth is there and the means to which you are growing is working.
